## The Movie

### Soundtrack

RADWIMPS does it again with another banger soundtrack. I don't think I can say much more about it. It's just really good. It fits the movie really well, and it's just a joy to listen to. I especially like the song "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" which is the main theme of the movie. It's a really catchy song that captures the essence of the movie really well.

### Thoughts

Weathering With You isn't the most special movie, let alone anime movie in the world. It's got a simple story, simple premise, and simple plot points. Yet, it's clear the people who worked on this movie worked really hard to make it this good. This movie's clearly a labor of love. Not every work has to be as good as the Mona Lisa.

I think the highlight of this movie is definitely the story. The story of runaways in Tokyo struggling to make a living is certainly a bold, yet endearing choice. This movie shows the struggles of everyday life as a runaway, but it also shows the beauty of blossoming relationships between people. I especially liked the relationship between the two main characters. The way it developed didn't feel rushed at all. It was built from empathy, then they worked towards something bigger till the end.

I also liked the visuals of this movie. Yeah, it definitely used 3D animation a lot, and sometimes it even looked tacky, but it still looked pretty beautiful to me. It's nothing to complain about, really. This movie is still another gorgeous wallpaper-able movie from Makoto Shinkai.

I'm not writing more about the worldbuilding and such because there isn't much to talk about. Unlike Your Name and Suzume, this movie doesn't really explain much about the fantastical elements, but that's not really a problem. It's a love story, and the fantastical elements are just there to add some spice to it. It's not like the movie is trying to be something it's not.

Overall, I give Weathering With You a 8/10 Gem-Mid. It's just a love story movie with fantastical elements. Unlike Makoto Shinkai's other 2 big works, Your Name and Suzume, this movie doesn't hit the mark on the exposition and worldbuilding. It certainly lacks in that aspect, but it is very strong in the romance aspect. This is a movie that matches your expectations as to what a romance anime movie should be.

Wow, it's sunny.
