## Season 1

### Soundtrack

The opening of Hyakkano is pretty good. It reminds me a lot of The Quintessential Quintuplets' opening, with the multiple voices and all. Honestly, the song on its own is nice, but with the subpar opening animation, I skipped it half of the time. I wish the opening was as good as the credits.

I'm a sucker for cute ending songs, and Hyakkano's ending song is incredibly cute and fluffy. Paired with the excellently simple animation it makes for such an incredible credits experience. It's so fun. Unskippable and a permanent addition to my Liked Songs.

We have to talk about the Hahari special ED. What the fuck are those vocals? I'm so uncomfortable. Oh my God, and the song is such a banger, too. It's crazy that this is an ending song at all. Wow. I guess real art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable.

### Thoughts

I can't believe I watched something this sloppy in premise after the gem that is 86: Eighty Six. From the start, Hyakkano is an open book. It makes it very clear that what you're about to watch isn't "anime in general". In my uneducated opinion, it's what I'd call a meta-anime. Instead of trying to subvert any romcom tropes, it embraces so many of them with no shame at all. Clearly, this is something only someone who has watched plenty of romance animes would truly understand. But, whether or not I'm that person, it's very clear that despite the slop-borderline-gem premise that this anime has, there are a lot of things it does right.

Hyakkano is an anime about the main character, Rentaro and the eventually 100 in amount girlfriends that he meets. That's already a crazy concept already. I've seen online that it's supposed to be a critique of harem anime. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. Honestly, I don't feel like throughout the entire story that Rentaro feels like the main focus of the story at all, which I didn't expect from a harem anime. It seems like the girls themselves are the core of the story (wow, obvious right?). Despite that, Rentaro is interesting enough to be funny. I mean, this is a gag anime, after all. I think he plays the role of the best boyfriend in the entire world really well. There's not a single moment where I feel like he's favoring one girl over the other. Talk about glorious purpose.

As I've said before, the girls themselves are the core of the story. The six that were introduced this season were pretty good. Hakari is clearly the dumbest of the six and also the horniest one, which makes for a lot of ecchi moments that make me quite uncomfortable. I don't know how to truly feel about that. Karane is an excellent take on a tsundere character, I can tell you that much. I also LOVE her dynamic with Hakari. There's also Shizuka. She's cute, and that's basically her entire job. Not too interesting. Nano Eiai is alright, too. She's the backbone of a lot of gags this season, so her importance definitely fits her efficient aura. I think the second worst character is Kusuri, though. I mean, it's clear that she's very important to the plot because she's an anime chemist and all that, but I don't find her arc that interesting at all. She exists to serve the story. The worst character is Hahari, though. Call me a tourist, but I was so uncomfortable when it was implied that she and Rentaro had sex. Thank God it was a gag, though. I guess one good thing about her is her over-the-top backstory. Definitely not what I expected for the final arc at all.

In terms of plot, I can say that despite the amount of "slop" moments and "mid" moments, there are quite a few gem moments. The best arc is definitely the final arc of freeing Hakari, though. It was… hilariously sloppy, so to say. It's so good of a parody of horrible media that it's so good. I won't say anything more than that. On the other hand, the worst episode is the kissing zombie episode. It's such a sick excuse for Rentaro to kiss all of his girlfriends, AGAIN. Like, I GET IT, OKAY? HE'S IN LOVE. THEY'RE IN LOVE. Not to mention the yuri undercurrent between Hakari and Karane that feels so forced just because they shared a kiss with Rentaro (BY SHARED, I LITERALLY MEAN A THREE-WAY KISS). It's so bland and adds nothing to the story. Just a gag that will be replayed in the next season.

I don't recommend anyone watch this anime. Just by my review alone, it sounds like I'm watching some shitty anime. It's really not that shit at all if you don't take it seriously. Please don't take it seriously, or I'm afraid you'll see me different. Listen, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You is literally just a gag anime that cannot exist in a vacuum. There are so many gags that don't need context, but so much more that needs context from watching other animes or interacting with the anime community. Because of that, it's funny. Yes, despite the horrifying amount of fanservice and the sloppiest slop in the world, I didn't regret watching this anime at all. The execution was incredible. That's why it's an 8/10 Slop-Gem. Goodbye. DON'T JUDGE ME.

## Season 2

### Soundtrack

Hyakkano's Season 2 opening just mogs the first one so hard. This is how a harem opening should be. It's so damn fun. I even love the vocals from all the characters. Combined with the adequate animation, it makes for an exciting opening that's hard to skip.

Listen, the animation for the ending song is basically the same as the first season's. It's just as cute and has more girlfriends. My only problem is with the song: It's not cute enough. It's too upbeat! I do like the "cheerleading" part, though. It sound really neat and makes so much sense for a harem anime. I guess it's cute in a different way, but in my opinion it's not preferable.

### Thoughts

Why did I keep watching? Was it because I actually liked the first season, or because of dumb curiosity? I'm sorry, the answer is both. The plot only got sloppier. It went from "okay, bro" to "what the fuck" levels in the first three episodes very quickly. I can't say it's not interesting, but I can say that it's not weird. I guess that's the point of this anime, though. To gag the viewer. Why do I even still talk about this?

So, Rentaro bags another five girlfriends. To be honest, and I kid you not, this season's additions to the Rentaro Family are REALLY GOOD. The first girl, Kurumi, is great. She's hungry, can eat anything, and gets hangry really easily. After the arc, she also narrates and reacts to a lot of the gags, too. Basically, she's almost like the audience self-insert. She's great. My only problem is why the fuck does Rentaro date a middle schooler? Why is that not a bigger deal? It's insane. Moving on from that, Meido is unremarkable at all. I didn't like her arc at all. I do like her interactions with the other girlfriends, though. She's very loving, to say the least. After Meido, there's the masochistic girl, Iku. She's cute, alright. Her arc is also nice, I especially enjoyed the baseball game episode. It's actually nice to see an emotionally moving arc, for once. The fourth girl introduced, Mimimi is so BORING. Like, I get it, girl, your entire personality is being pretty. Her arc is also soooooooooo shallow. Not even wasted potential, there was none to begin with. Finally, there's Meme. Her gimmick is fun, I guess. Good enough for an episode, at least. It's clear that she's not gonna get much screentime in the future, though.

Other than the arcs of the five new girlfriends, what else does this season have for us, you may ask? Firstly, there's the episode where the girls wear maid outfits and battle with water guns. What a fucking sloppy excuse to get some ecchi shots of the characters. Then, there's the baseball episode which was pretty funny. I already talked about how it was at least more emotional than the other arcs. After that, there's the Hahari hair episode. I won't speak about it. It shouldn't have been thought of at all. The worst episode I have ever watched. Finally, the Tsundere Lost arc was nice. It's really horrifying to see Karane not being a tsundere. There were also a lot of good moments between her and Hakari, which was really nice to see. I'm thankful that her personality was reverted, though.

So what if I liked watching Hyakkano S2? It's not good, at all. But I'm not rating based on how "good" something is. If I was, I would've dropped this anime by the sixth episode. Hyakkano S2 is just a funny as the first season, only with higher stakes and more characters. It's a fun time, but I cannot say this anime is for everyone. Goodbye. My rating doesn't change, btw.
